The Harleysville Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) have been serving Harleysville and the surrounding community for 57 years. The thought of establishing the Harleysville club began in the early 1950’s. With the Harleysville Lions Club an already very active organization and several other Jaycees clubs starting to appear in neighboring towns, the Lansdale Jaycees decided Harleysville was a viable location for a new chapter because of Harleysville’s close knit sense of community combined with a then promising population growth. The Lansdale Chapter advertised and sponsored the young club until it eventually could stand on its own. Officially chartered June 17, 1955, the then newly formed civic organization of the Harleysville community physically accepted their charter a month later at a celebration at the former Spring Mountain House in Schwenksville.
Today, many continue to serve in our local chapter of the Jaycees. We are made up of carpenters, lawyers, construction workers, accountants, plasters, plumbers, etc. Although we come from different backgrounds, we all share a common goal of giving back to the community through volunteerism.
